Does anybody have expierence of using the combo packs from Kriega?
I already have a US10 and it is a fantastic day pack but following the GMIV this year, I am looking to replace my soft panniers (they leaked and marked panels) with a US40 or US50. The US50 (2 x US10's and a US30) does look quite large and am worried if all of that will be secure and stable on the back of the SV or is the US40 plenty big enough? Would prefer less bulk but would be no good if all my gear for a long weekend doesn't fit! Planning on 4 day coastal tour of Scotland at Easter. Anybody use these or fitted them to a pointy SV?

don't have any other apart from the 10. but i was thinking the same thing for later on next year.
are you taking a tent or b&b/hostel. how much stuff do you really need, its all to easy to say i need this and that when in fact you never actually use it. personally i have the 10 and was thinking of adding the 30 which should be well adequate to hold all my clothes and use the 10 for my usual 'day out' stuff. go and get all the stuff you think you will need for the trip then start reducing it till you have only the basics. how many pairs of trousers do you actually need? how many pairs of shoes do you actually need? do you really need a to take a jacket when your bike jacket will suffice? or do what i do... minimal clothing, debit card and rac card then get what i need on the go. |

I use us30 with a us10 on top, strapped to the subframe using the newer strap system.
Not gonna beat around the bush, it was fine at blasts up to 160. |

Thinking of doing B&B and hostel/bunkhouse for tour around, don't fancy riding with a tent and sleeping bag for 4 days and not being able to fully enjoy the roads up there, plus when its raining (It is Scotland) don't fancy being in a tent all the time.
I used soft panniers with 15l each side and US10 for the GMIV and just managed to get all my gear in. basics 1 pair trainers, 1 pair trainers, 1 hoodie plus essentials and wet biking gear. So having 2x us10 and us20 (40 Litres) would probably do at a squeeze and US30 is a big chunk of money - £90.00 but less than us10 + us20 - £100! If us30 stays on at 160, am tempted to go for that and if need another us10 later.

You strap them to the subframe, rather than relying on the cowl or passenger seat just clamping over them. Prob best to look on kriega site as I'm rubbish at describing.

A US30 should be more than enough.
I've got the US20 and got 2day clothes plus a spare set, kettle, fuel and other bit and pieces in for AR and had the tent and sleeper strapped on top. The newer ones look good for the money, its maybe an investment for myself at the winter. Also the old style straps will stay on at over a ton with a tent on top

Forgot to mention capacity. I used a us30 for four days in Scotland last April and was plenty of room, although I was staying in hotels/bnbs so no towel which saves loads of space.
Did 7 days in France in September with us30 with us10 on top, but I didn't even need the 10 to be honest as only had my spare gloves and bits n bobs in. Surprising what you can fit in if you pack sensibly. For me, having size twelves, shoes are an issue as take up too much space. So I take slip on canvas shoes which fold flat. They still have decent rubber sole though. I also don't take jeans; I take cotton combats or similar as pack a lot smaller. |
