As you might have seen, my sv is up for sale.
But as i keep looking at other bikes, then taking mine to work and hearing her roar, pop and bang i just think "keep her another year" ![]() ![]() Now if i keep her, being male, i obviously need to find another way to spend the money i was going to put towards a new bike. So i fancy tuning/tweaking/fidgiting (and if your scottish) Foutering with her! Wondered if anyone could give me an idea on how much i'd be looking to do a few jobs to it? (none of its broken or damaged, just fancy chaning bits to see if it makes her even more fun in the twisties (and tart her up a bit)) USD forks conversion? ££? New springs & oil & respray them black to match bike? ££ braided lines? ££ Stiffer rear spring? ££ Change the padding on the seat to be able to cover more miles? Big mega supercharger to add 300bhp to it and make (sexy) women's clothes fall off instantly? Might tart it up with shorty leavers & black rearsets. Cheers, Completely confused and mixed up Adam |

USD forks, about £400 down but you can get most of it back in selling the OE bits.
Braided lines, £80 or so Stiffer rear spring don't bother, fit a decent shock. The stock shock can't control the stock spring. £50-100 for one from another bike, £250ish for a sport shock, £550 or so for full race one.

GB Moto Rearsets were affordable and don't need anything more expensive than that. I've crashed these and they stand up well. Only damage was a sheared peg buffed down nicely for a (now) custom look
![]() Tinted screen and rear hugger are a good cosmetic change. Got a hugger for £60, screen for £40. (Also, de-sticker if you haven't done so yet). Oh yeah, I got Hyperpro progressive springs and the braided lines mentioned by Chris make a difference. Together it has improved the braking stability of the bike. Miles better than stock. But, I recommend upgrading front and rear susp. if possible as you'll notice an even bigger difference. YC is right about OEM shock. That's next on the list for me. I also got cheap levers, no problems so far for £20. Last edited by Runako; 28-01-12 at 12:49 PM. |

I'd sell her and get a new bike mate!

total opposite, until you have rode a fully sorted SV then don't knock it, it's a completely different bike from a standard one and is a loooot more fun.
to do a good job you are looking at £1000-£1500 for USD and £800-£1200 for RWU that's including a new shocky as it's pointless doing it otherwise. you then recoup about £400-£500 back on your SV bits. |

I'm sure it is much better, but to be honest I'd not touch one someone had done themselves. Absolutely if you're going to keep a bike and can do all this yourself, but as a non mechanic I'd not be keen.

yup 100% on that. there are far to many bodge jobs out there and it takes a keen eye to notice the silly things people have done. but that's bikes in general. if you don't know what your doing don't do it or get someone who does to lend a hand. bikes are dangerous enough without adding to it.

I'd have to have it checked by someone who knew what they were doing, but it would put me off unless I knew the bike well-also depends on context, and someone who knew the mods looking it over to make sure it was done properly.
Wouldn't you be curious as to why someone would spend so much on modifying what is essentially a budget bike? |
