First interview in over 10 years - advice please...

Morning all!

At 11:30 this morning I have my first proper interview for 13 years and have not slept a wink thinking about it...

Polished Shoes - CHECK
Ironed Crisp White Shirt - CHECK
New Suit - CHECK
New Plain Tie - CHECK
Shower & Shave - CHECK

So now all I need is some advice on interview technique etc...one more added issue is that I know the interviewer quite well, so how do I handle that situation too?

you will possibly find its more of a chat, these can be nice, but be ready for the odd curve ball question, like the classic, "why do you want to work here"

Read up on the company, take some questions, and not like how much will i get paid, but things like the role progression, what does success in the role look like to them.

Be positive, any self generated emphasis on weak points isnt good, if there areas you no aren't your strong point, its ok to say that if asked so they dont put you in a role where all that you have is your weak point but explain your happy to or have been working on them,

other than that, chill out, relax and remember its just a chat about you and your skills and you also need to find out why they wanted to see you...

Deep breaths will help to calm and relax you, make sure you know what they're all about and just try and be cool! Good luck!

Don't be afraid to ask questions (but not too many), things like training opportunities and ar previously mentioned, role progression etc.

Hard for me to say as, like you, I've not had a proper interview in many a year.

However, dependant on what role you are applying for be prepared for some cliché type questions i.e where do you see yourself in 5 years.

If your interviewers are anything like me when i interview people they will probably dislike the situation as much as you.

Always try and answer the questions but if you don't know the answer, be honest.

Something I have always found key is know the company inside out. At my last interview I had no idea about the industry I was going into really, but I knew a lot about the company and it's products which impressed them and showed I was very keen.

this. all day this. always remember if it comes down to two candidates who are equally as impressive it could be that one thing that gives you the edge over the smelly gay person who is your rival

Don't do one of mine, turned up early as traffic could be a nightmare. So went to get a brew, dropped it down my trousers. Looked like I had ****ed myself.
