Default No claims bonus query.

One for the insurance experts out there...

If I had 5 years no claims on a car policy and have a prang so that the insurer decides it's their policy to reduce it to 3 years rather than make me lose it all together (so all is not lost), but I also have a bike policy with 2 years NCB does the accident affect the NCB on the bike?

I know that I'll have to declaire it and that it will have an effect on the price, but at my next renewal I should have 3 years on the car and 3 years on the bike. Right?

You claim against a specific policy, rather than you as "the driver", so since you've never claimed on your bike policy, it doesn't affect the bike NCB. You still have to tell your insurer though, because they will factor a claim on any motoring policy into their premium calculations. It shouldn't make any real difference to the premium but you should tell them to protect your ****.

You're right tommy, if they give you any sh1te over it just remind them you're not allowed to bring NCB across from other vehicles when wanting a cheaper quote so they can't use it for their use either.

Loss of car NCD doesn't affect your bike NCD, and no insurer will try to tell you it does.

Similarly if you have two bike policies, and lose the NCD on one, it has no effect on the other.

You'll need to declare the claim to both (I've found car insurers don't care about bike claims, but bike insurers are often interested in car claims) just in case, but that's about it.
