as the title says, do i need to tell the insurance company that the bike is 33bhp, as they should know that it is, as at the age of 17 it will be restricted anyway.

How was the question about you holding your license worded?
Does it simply ask how long you've held your 'full license' or does it make a specific reference to a restricted license? |

Then there is a lot of ambiguity about whether you have to or not.
- I have had one insurance company tell me that you only have to declare a mod if it's something that you can't get with a new bike from the dealer (and AFAIK you can buy a new SV with a restricted ECU). - There was a case on here that someone quoted from the ombudsmen where someone had not declared a restricted ECU, he claimed they should know due to age, restricted license etc. They relied on the fact that their question was 'how long have you held a full UK license' and they didn't class a restricted license as full (even though there is actually no place in law for it). Ombudsmen said that they could not deny insurance but that the rider would be liable for paying the price based on the restricted license / restricted ECU. If it were me I'd ask the insurance company direct so that there is no ambiguity, but others on here will say why should you if you've answered the exact question they've asked. |

If you really want to add your restrictor to insurance expect £££££ with it. I havent declared mine, as i will say if in a crash and they ask, that its a legal requirement for my license, and other one . Is you should know its restricted as im 17 . Im with just motorbike insurance and i get TPFT, £580 6000miles a year, payed £50 for AA breakdown . And cause my excess is £650 they cover me up to £500 meaning i only pay £150 excess. Just a heads up. My friend has his renewal on 30th march with 1 NCB . And before it was £450. now they said to ring , so he did. And wallah its now £1100, because of the 38% premiums. He has declared restrictor, ive told him not to bother. So i wouldnt either. Unless you got money to throw away

I’m on a restricted licence when I renewed my insurance I didn’t mention that the bike was restricted initially. Once they gave me a quote I then mentioned it and they said they will add it onto their notes and it wouldn’t have any effect on the price. You should mention it because it’s classed as a performance modification even though it is restricting the power.
