Default SV650 Topspeed at the Maxton Mile.

So instead of starting another how fast does the sv650 go I figured I should bring some answers to the table. I attended the 2011 September event at Maxton North Carolina. I left in the middle of the night on Friday and rode 320 mile to get there. 20 miles from Maxton I had my regulator rectifier plug lose grounding. The bike died as I pulled to the side of the interstate. I had my voltmeter immediately confirming my suspensions. After a few minutes I had the problem solved. Well except for the lack of power to start the bike. I even carry a set of mini jumper cables but that requires someone to stop. I ended up trying to push start my bike for 20 min. Finally my bike came to life and I ran back an 1/8 mile to get my bags. I finally got back on my way and arrive at the old airport.

My bike is a 2004 sv650s. It has stock gearing Hindle slip on exhaust (which they don't make a slip on for an sv so i don't really know what it is) and K&N air-filter. Now other factors that should be noted is my bike had 48,000 miles of hard riding and abuse so it is not in the prime of its life.

Other factor to consider it was probably about 80 degrees very high humidity. On the 123 mph run on Sunday morning it was so humid it was condensing like rain at high speed. At the half mile mark i was indicating 123 and climbed to an indicate 130mph in the second half of the mile for a best speed of 126.7 mph. My speedo is a hall effect sensor for the gsxr front end and i am running a 120/70/17 front tire.

Thanks to my new Friend Don Smith i got to see what an sv650 looks like at top speed

You might ask why the 95 mph run. Well i had a 33hp ecu shipped to me from the uk and thought i would answer what is the top speed for a restricted bike.

In order to run I had to have a 1/8 in Aluminum Chain Guard. If anyone is going to run at The Ohio mile on a sv650 I will make you one free of Charge. I also had to have a tethered kill switch and a metal battery strap. I had to take the mirrors and the back foot pegs off. Other than that and a full set of leathers the sv was ready to go.

In the end I met a bunch of great people who were kind and helpful to me. I would highly recommend the experience to anyone who lives on the east coast of the USA.

Not many people would go to such efforts to answer a question that is entirely irrelevant to them.

You, sir, are a geezer - end of.

that is funny blue pointys are the fastest and i have the slip to prove it. I am guessing a red or yellow one would have only done about 125mph. The only way a curvy could beat that would be to push it out of an airplane or have a Busa hook a tow rope to it.

yeah they usually are off about 10% the bigger 120/70/17 tire is nice it makes the error quite minimal i was indicating 97 mph on the 95 mph pass.

The 95 mph pass gave me a lot of time to work on my tuck. I got one more mph in the last quarter mile by pulling my legs against the frame as hard as i could and pushing my helmet into the tank until my jacket was cutting off my circulation through my neck.
