Default Caliper rebuild lubrication question.

I've finally gotten around to putting the calipers back together. Haynes says to use clean brake fluid which doesn't help much. Am I correct in thinking that it's rrg for the dust seals and piston seals. Then it's general grease (mine is lithium based - is that ok?) for the boots, pistons and slider pins. Do I need to use copper grease anywhere?

Thanks

RRG on the Rubber/Seals
Mucky Grease on the open to weather parts
and Copper on anything threaded is a general rule that applies pretty much all over the bike or at least thats the general rule I apply all over the bike

I wouldn't put copper grease anywhere but pin blind holes and pad backing.

It is a personal thing but I wouldn't put it on anywhere "threaded" where that fastener was designed to clamp. I.E caliper retaining bolts. and most certainly nowhere near the bleed nipples.

Silicon grease for the slider pins/boots etc.

A smear of RRG on the seals

everyone has their own preferences. mine are, rrg on seals and sliders/boots (rrg is a very high melting point grease that shouldn't thicken with age unlike silicon grease) copper slip in the blind pin hole and on the back of pads unless you have the shims then keep these 'dry'.

don't go mental with RRG you only need to rub the rubber parts in it not have them dripping in the stuff this also goes for the sliders (but a little more) as to much will cause it to act like a vacuum.

i'm with Owenski in that if it's got a thread i use copper slip and especially if it's stainless going into alloy.

Why would you not use it on the bleed nipple especially?

I think the idea is that you don't want to encourage it to work itself out through vibration or whatever. If the bleed nipple came out so would the fluid & you'd have no brakes

I copper grease my nipples and they're always as tight or tighter than when I put them in. Never known one loosen off, ever, car or bike. They only sieze tighter IMHO. You're worrying too much.

i use PTFE (plumbers) tape on the threads of bleed nipples as it serves 2 purposes. 1 is it fills the gap in the threads and stops the possibility of air being drawn in or fluid bypassing the threads. 2. it stops the threads seizing as i creates a barrier between the 2 different metals.
