Hi,
wondering if anybody can advise... After about 20 mins of riding then there is a strong egg smell from from the CAT is this a problem / worth worrying about? The previous owner (also on this forum) had removed the SET valve could this have anything to do with it? Cheers Steve |

Once you get the egg smell, does always smell from then on, or does it come and go? My car occasionally smells too, but not all the time.

Not really sure what would each case suggest?

An occasional egg smell would seem pretty normal to me.
There is sulphur additives in fuel and if your engine doesn't burn it completely then it can accumulate in the cat. When you put the engine under a greater load, forcing more air through, it is released as hydrogen sulphide (eggy smell). Does the smell coincide with you using more throttle once the engine has warmed up? Solutions are to try changing fuel to a more premium brand/octane rating to see if it goes away after a few tanks, or to try some motorway/high load riding to try and burn it all off, or failing that get the cat cleaned out/replaced. Or else it could just be your fuel mixture is out a little meaning you're not getting a clean burn in your engine. --- I am here: http://tapatalk.com/map.php?3bzxnr Last edited by WayneL; 05-04-12 at 03:10 PM. Like I said, an occasional smell is fine and is just the cat doing it's job. But if it persists constantly after 20 mins then there is something wrong I reckon.

Cheers for that,
Yes it does coincide with heavy throttle use. If i were to remove the CAT then what effects would this have - would engine need remapping or anything? Also where are link pipes available from to replace the CAT. |

The CAT is only ther to clean up the emmisions. When your beaning it its just working harder so thats why it smells. My OE ones did.
I replaced them and switched to Map 2. (open loop) You might need a PC,your bound to find a map that will work .

When did you run over the cat?
Warm, rotting flesh will always have a special aroma. Best just to scrape it off. |
