Better to get it vapour blasted, less harsh and no bits to get sucked into the engine, then just paint the engine with good old PJ1 engine paint

There's few companies that do blast cleaning in your area. Pick one that does soda blasting, as I think that is the best for engine cleaning for what I've read

My mate Richard Blackburn (his sister is one of my closest friends) and his missus Justine have a company that specialises in vapour blasting bike parts. Rich also restores old British stuff and specialises in Scott motorcycles. Here's his details:
NORTH EAST CLASSICS LTD UNIT 10B DABBLE DUCK INDUSTRIAL ESTATE SHILDON COUNTY DURHAM ENGLAND DL4 2RA http://www.nevb.co.uk/index.php Telephone: +44 (0)1388 772127 Mobile: +44 (0) 7814 686446 Richard's company was recently featured in Practical Sportsbike in an article about a Yamaha RD500LC he'd restored for a customer. Clean, clean and clean again once you've had anything vapour blasted. I had the motor on my Katana done and it looked this biz but every blind hole was clogged with abrasive so blank everything you can. If this company will do a post blast clean then I'd take it.
Anyone in the South looking for a vapour blaster could do worse than trying RD Cox in Reading. |

As I said, Richard and Justine specialise in bike parts, they understand the importance of getting everything spotlessly clean before a rebuild can be carried out. Richards main work is restoring really old Scott 2-strokes - you wouldn't believe just how complex that job is, and the scarcity of parts means you simply can't afford to get it wrong
