I'd like to nominate myself for the above.
This morning I momentarily wired the battery on my S-Y the wrong way round. I know it's no excuse but it was dark in the shed and I'd just woken up. The terminals were only touching a few seconds before I realised my mistake, and the ignition was switched off, but still, when put the terminals on the right way, the whole circuit seemed dead. I've not had chance to check the fuses yet as I had to go straight to work, but, because I can't stop thinking about it, could anyone advise the extent of the damage I might have caused? I was under the impression that unless the key is turned to make a circuit, nothing could be damaged but this is evidently not the case. Only thing I can think of that takes power off the battery when the ignition is off is the alarm/immobiliser. |

There is a 20 or 30 amp fuse in the main relay, behind the right in-fill panel below the rider's seat (follow the +ve wire from the battery).
I suspect it's blown up, replace it, all should be fine ![]() You're not the first person to manage this Jambo

Thanks so much for that - feel slightly less sick now and might be able to manage some lunch!
In further mitigation, I was in a bad emotional state after a catalogue of electrical gremlins which may or may not be down to the infamous reg/rec issue. Good to know there are others as stupid as me - think a 'thickest SV owners ever' thread would make for interesting reading. Thanks again for that. |

Main fuse is on the solenoid, rather than in the box with the others.

Cheers chaps - the (green on my bike) 30amp fuse on the left turned out to be the culprit.
Not tried starting it yet out of consideration for the neighbours as it was late by the time I sorted it (bit stupid really seeing as their son races in superstock and they're a family of bike nuts!) but everything comes on fine when you turn the key, so fingers crossed. Will bear in mind the battery warning - think my reg/rec is on the way out so the battery may take a bit more punishment until I get a new one later in the week. Will take trickle charger into work until then and ride with the lights off as a precaution. Thanks again for the help. |
