In practice they are pretty poor and it can be hard to see the indicators.

I bought one of these from a U.S website (advertised as E.U legal).. not a jap one.. it did cost 2x the price mind you.. The indicators are VERY bright and as its a whole load of LEDs in a line its possibly brighter than the standard set up.
The brake lights are also very bright and completely visible when the indicators are on or off I took it to a bike MOTer once fitted and he said he would have no reason to fail it and could not see it being illegal.. I think there are varied opinions on this but I guess it depends on the product. |

According to construction & use regs
http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1989/1796/schedule/7/made if it's been made after 1986 rear indicators need to be minimum 240mm apart |

The indicators are less than 120mm apart so therefore are illegal
End of.

Im my mind (which is a strange place anyway) I was thinking 120mm from the center line of the bike (currently working on some lighting mods for my SV so been studying up on these rules)

I can't see how there are varied opinions, the rules are quite clear. Even if you get a generous MOTer theres nothing to stop the police fining you for having illegal lights.
