I like the concept of the flip front helmet, and was quite pleased with my old Vemar, however when it started to get baggy on my head I knew that it was time for a new lid.
So a trip to Fowlers was in order and a nice shiny Flip front from Piaggio got plonked on my head. ![]() The fit was and continues to be excellent. The flip mechanism is very simple to use and the visor moves with ease, but does not snap shut in the wind. So that was the good bits. The negative side though is significant. Starting at the silly end, I really miss the built in sun visor of my Vemar. The piaggio is very noisy and requires ear plugs at anything over forty MPH. The slightly more worrying bits are the buckle closure system that feels weak and fragile. The biggest worry though is the visor itself. It has a coating on the inside that prevents misting up, however this is permeable to water and as soon as it gets wet, it starts to crack and peel. The effect is of looking through a spider web on a frosty morning. Once it starts to peel off the visor, the plastic underneath changes and develops foggy patches. OK, it was a cheap helmet, but to be honest for what I got, it was still expensive. I think that I will be changing it very soon. |

I once had a Schuberth with the same sort of coating, sounds like they came from the same place, absolutely useless and washed off with soap and water in the end.

They've improved it between then and me buying my lid, but it's not great near brake fluid or masking tape.

I was going to write "brummy's" but thought it'd be wasted if you didn't come across that post
![]() No worries, my visibility would have been zero for the trip if we hadn't got that pinlock fitted. ![]()

You can get a Caberk Duke flip front for a very good price, with an internal sun visor and pinlock:
