Default fitting temp gauge

hi all, i want to fit a koso tacho and temp gauge combo. the d55 i think, im not quite sure whats in the pack as far as sender unit goes for the temp side of things, on the standard sv carby, is the sensor in the thermostat housing a proper sender unit ie a thermistor, or is it mearly an off /on swich for the fan, i do know about the sensor in the rad, is this a switch ???, ideas please. tar rob

If its like my dash a vapour trail you have to cut a piece into the top hose. The original temP sensor stays connected and triggers the fan on and off so don't take the main wiring out to the original sensor.

mmm that may be an issue as my carby has a race loom, i was looking at the scematic for my cb racer, and that has a propper simbol for a vareiable resistor,, if its the same thread i may try the sauspan on the hob thing with my dvm to see if it changes resistance with heat, ,,,,,rob

Sorry shoud read all the way through really. The fan works off the temp sender in the bottom right of the rad (I'm thinking there's a large chance you have removed the fan any way) but the thermostat works off the good old style of no switch just mechanical, so don't worry about over heating. It's located in the bit of metal, inbetween the two cylinders connected 3 rubber pipes. Most people take them out to increase cooling which is done by undoing the two bolts (you can see them from the left hand side, through the frame)and pulling the metal bit apart. Don't worry about gaskets as its an o ring seal. Pull the thermostat out and do back up, never need to worry about overheating again( unless you do a head gasket, run it too lean). To answer your main question no wires are needed for the thermostat.
