Default I stole the wife's bike again.

and nearly had a horrible accident!

It started when my step son needed to be picked up, but Carol was working and could not get to him. She asked me to go and get him, but because of my injury, I am finding riding Sylvie to hard, especially with a six foot tall bloke on the back. So I borrowed her bike, the ZRX1100, it has the grunt and power to make carrying my stepson a lot easier. It also has two brake calipers on the front, each having six pistons. I will come to why this is important in a moment.

Having picked the boy up we headed home and this is where things went wrong. A Guy driving a gold coloured car came tearing up the outside lane and just as the lane ends and merges back into the original, he decided to continue over taking past me and three other cars infront. Only there was no room for him to continue, this caused him to try to pull in to a space that already held two cars. They braked hard, the original guy went sideways and then slid. The Blue BMW infront of me skidded, luckily I always leave a gap to allow for braking, but this was too close for comfort.

I made the bike dive for a gap between two cars and managed to stop. The guy driving the gold coloured car gave me a wave to say sorry and then he sped off. Me step son had slid right forward on the saddle and was almost on my seat. The Blue BMW moved away and I managed to move the bike off again.

I got home and put the bike away, went in and saw the wife, I then promptly burst into tears.

A moron in a gold car nearly killed me and my step son today, he also nearly ruined the weekend of at least two other people. I have always wondered how I would react if I was presented with a situation like this. It is nice to know that I stayed calm. However, the thought that flashed through my head was rather strange. It was simply this: "We are going to die!" That was it, no drama, no emotion, just a cold fact. If I am honest I do not know how we didn't crash. What gives that man the right to drive like that and do things like this to other people?

As for the wife's bike, I don't like the gear box, my Suzuki one feels so much smoother!

Well done Jayne. Carol would have killed you if you'd died.

Jayne dont put it down as a negative chalk it up as a positive as you saved the day which is the sign of a good rider, your tears should be of joy. a lot of people would have slammed the brakes on and slid or panicked and rode straight into the back of the car in front. you seen the gap you created the escape and more importantly you and your son are still here because of your awareness and quick reactions.

Sign of a skilled rider. Paying attention to whay might happen. It happeded and you had your escape route. It's amazing how many people risk so much to save a couple of minutes.

Thanks for the kind words folks, the drama of the moment has passed by now and I feel some what more calm. As for the git in the gold Car, I am guessing that at some stage he is going to hurt some one and I hope I am not there when he does it. (Also, I know that it was not you Widepants, he was driving too slowly!)

Sounds scary, I hope you are feeling better now, has Carol relaxed yet, I bet she was as worried as you when you told her.

Well done for holding it together Jayne. Accumulated riding skills and experience kicking in there when you needed it.

It is a shame we have to share the road with selfish kn0bs like Mr Goldcar though.
