Default Alarms and Security?

Hey, My SV came with pretty much no security on it, and by pretty much I do mean NONE.....

I got a Oxford Boss alarm disc lock yesterday but am looking at having an alarm and immobiliser fitted as well.

Someone recommended a Meta alarm to me http://www.gapsecuritydirect.co.uk/meta-357tv2/

But thought I would ask here incase someone has some other suggestions before shelling out £300 on an alarm.

Alarms are of limited use really, but they come in two main types, those that cost a lot and are insurance approved, and those that are functional and much cheaper, if you are after the former then the 357 v2 is a good one, you'll save a little on insurance perhaps, but it'll take years to recoup the cost, alternately I've fitted a number of these which I've found to be good, they come with a bike specific wiring diagram and are a doddle to fit (the X50 is the one I tend to fit), being the company is based in Wimbledon they respond quickly to any queries promptly to, with the money saved I'd buy a decent big chain and lock as well.

Cheers Mark.

I had to remove the alarm off mine due to it being an absolute ****, it was an acumen. I've got a ground anchor, disc lock and chain it to a wall so the chain's off the floor. Rictus knows his stuff though!

Well anything off my insurance is a bonus but its more for my own peace of mind than anything else, Just do not like the thought of the bike having no security.

How easy are we talking to fit? I have no experience with this kind of thing at all....

takes me about 20 minutes to fit a hawk, about an hour and a half to teach someone to fit it themselves with me there, so a couple of hours by yourself, but of course that's supposing you have at least some logical thought and can follow the diagram....

Cheers Mark.

Its worth a shot, plus for £40 instead of £290 I can always pay someone to do it if need be.... In terms of Sturdy locks would you say something like a Abus R1?

once again chains and locks won't stop someone determined, personally I would spend on a known brand, but not in the hundreds of pounds (anywhere from £40-90 or so), as long as the lock is decent and it's chunky that'll do as well as the expensive stuff

Cheers Mark
