Insurance on a bike

Hi all,

I curretly have an sv650s insured and I am able to ride any bike third party.

Now, if I turn my bike into a track bike, (SORND and with no MOT)

But keep my insurance, will I still be able to ride other bikes third party?

Don't know where I stand with this...

Yes.

You can insure a bike and not ride it, you can take it to bits in the garage, you can track it, do whatever. It just means that the insurance company gets pretty good value out of you, as the majority of the time they're insuring you, you're not using the vehicle.

And were you to put the bike into road trim you could ride it any day provided it was taxed.

if your insurance allows you to ride other bikes then yes as long as the bike you borrow is insured by someone else. you cant ride someone else's bike that is not insured even if you have insurance to cover it.

And you usually can't ride a bike you own.

double check your insurance covers you for other bikes. some dont allow it, and there are age restrictions ie over 25 etc

I had to query my policy last month about this. For me it was over 25 years of age, and if I had a 250cc bike or over, I could ride any other bike third party. As stated before though, that bike has to be fully insured on someone else's policy for that to be legal.

Just to add that if your bike isn't road worthy (mot and tax) it might not be covered for fire or theft.

Also, you would have to inform your insurance company about the changes you have made to your bike, i.e. that it is now a track-bike, otherwise your insurance is invalid.

But, if you tell them it is a track bike they might revoke your insurance, double edged sword really
