Default puncture repair

Just brought an sv650s k5 last week when I brought it the owner said he had a puncture in the rear tyre (road pilot) and had it repaired I thing with a plug.what I want to know is how safe are these repairs the tyre has loads of life left in it I think it has don under a 1000 miles. saying that I will nead to get the front changed soon as its getting near the ware markers, do you think it will be best to change both .

Personal choice really. A lot of garages won't plug tyres anymore because of potential claims should it go pop, however a lot of people are perfectly happy to ride on a repaired tyre. As long as the damage wasn't to the side wall and it has been plugged properly it will probably be fine. I'm OCD about tyres though so I would personally change it for piece of mind. If your doing the front soon anyway you may be able to get a discount on a set anyway.

I've posted on this a few times, a search for pucnture repair will throw up some threads and discussions.

1) Regardless of type, if a repair is applied from the outside of the tyre, without removing the tyre from the wheel, it is a temporary measure. It'll get you home / to a tyre centre. Used plenty, my favourites are the "sticky string" type.
2) If the tyre has been removed from the wheel, and inspected by someone that knows what they're doing, and repaired using a proper bung from the inside, then it'll be fine for the life of the tyre. I've done track days like this.

I dont know how far away this garage is that you speak of Jambo but I've over 500miles on my repair with no issues. Its quite hard to even spot it now, its right in the center of the tyre so its had a fair bit of hammer over those miles.
FYI its the sticky worm type as you type mention, cant fault it at £20 for 5 repairs. They're very simple in their design, not sure if I'd benefit from re-balancing the tyre though.

he didn't say it wouldn't work, just to be considered temporary (the instructions will give the limitations on speed & distance), I've used this method extensively over the years (above the stated limitations on occasion) and never had one let me down, saying that; I do get them professionally repaired as soon as I can.

Cheers Mark.

lol aye, its certainly not a "fix and forget" so yes certainly a higher awareness seems sensible.

EDIT: Certainly, Certainly.

thanks everyone as far as I know it was repaired by a tyre shop it was a small screw that went through the centre of the tyre so the last owner said , but you have put my mind to rest a bit, but new tyres will have to wait for a bit, as she is being booked in for a top end service valves ect. doing the oil, oil filter. and plugs my self.
