Hi all,
Couple of weeks ago I went out on a bike run that involved a few thousand bikes and very slow riding at the end. The fan was on most of the time as the bike was running at 103degrees. On the way home temp came down to its usual 80 +/- 2degrees. Then It started fluctuating. It will go from 75 upto 93degrees Max then it will drop past the normal temp, them equalise again. This happens quite quickly This is all happening at the same speed/gear and revs. Took her out again and still the same. Has anyone got any ideas? Cheers Jc Sent from my HTC Desire HD A9191 Last edited by SVJC; 21-08-12 at 09:29 AM. |

Mine fluctuates from 80 to 93 during the ride ever since I bought it (7t miles) and I've never found it weird...but it's not 70ish as yours, that's true.

Hopefully I'm just being parnoid. The embarrasing thing is I've had the bike for a while now and I've only just noticed it.

Were you driving behind a car when it goes up?
Mine goes up to >90c when I'm behind a car and I can only assume it's something to do with the car disrupting air flow to the engine as when I get past in same gear/speed it drops to 78c. K |

15 to 20C variation is pretty normal, especially with A road riding. Will be less with constant speed motorway like roads.
Have a search as this is asked fairly often.

I actually find it fluctuates more on the highway
![]() Anyway it's all caused by the thermostat opening and closing the way to radiator as it opens it once the temp raises to certain point and then when it gets down to certain point it closes again. It's very nicely noticeable when it's quite chilli day, you're moving quite slow for a while (the thermostat is opened) and than you speed up to, let's say 80mp/h or 90mp/h (getting on the highway) then I can see the biggest drop to somewhere around 80 degrees. |

FWIW I found the temperature on my pointy would rise very quickly when stopped in traffic, but it never actually overheated. Last edited by mikerj; 21-08-12 at 01:43 PM. |

[QUOTE=mikerj;2760633]The Megaride was a nightmare going into Plymouth, my dad's curvy had the high temperature warning lamp on and the fan was on continuously despite fittng a brand new radiator last year. My RSV was fine, but I nearly melted!
Yeah that was the ride I was on. Sent from my HTC Desire HD A9191 |
