Right I have a problem with my K5 Sv650S. When I first start the bike it starts no problem but when I ride it for a while and say stop for fuel or for a 10min break and go to start the bike again it starts but then cuts out almost straight away. It's really embarrassing and hope its nothing too serious. The bike is ECU restricted to 33hp....would that be causing an electrical fault in the ignition or is it more likely to be mechanical? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Need more info when you say cuts out, does it splutter and fart then die, does it just stop and go silent instantly? What are you doing when it dies, just hit the button, engine starts then die? Well documented fact I am a fan of starting simple, fill your tank then dump a bottle of redex fuel injector cleaner in would be my first try!

No just stops and goes silent suddenly. It dies out whether I touch the throttle or not, it doesn't really make a differences When I hit the button it starts up and would rev for maybe a second then dies. Doesn't matter if I'm pulling away or just at a standstill. Just odd because each Time I go to take the bike out it starts fine for the first time so perhaps it is temperature related. I don't know. Again, any help or suggestions would be great. Thanks

EDIT as you replied a second before me: Sounds like a fuelling issue to me, has anything been changed recently?

Yep, I'm lucky if I even get moving at all before it cuts out. There is no spluttering at all just cuts out almost as if I switched the ignition off myself. Eventually after trying maybe 7-8 times the bike would get going again but it's a right pain in the behind and it's embarrassing when on ride outs etc and people wait until I can get my bike goin. Lol

nothing has been changed apart from ECU restricted and it has a blue flame silencer. I'll try it with standard ECU to see if it makes any difference. How would I find out the problem? Local garage job?

Sounds a like a fuel issue, but a new fuel filter and a bottle of Redex will cost under £10 quid depending where you buy them, simple stuff first, don't go diving in head first and making life difficult and expensive for yourself.

If it was fuelling would it not be the same wether the bike was hot or cold? Seems odd how it always starts fine the first time but thereafter cuts out. Thanks for your help by the way. I'm lost with this kind of thing and will give any suggestions a try.

It's hard without having the bike here to play with but heat does/can play merry hell with tiny components like injectors and such, like I say hard to tell without having a look, but simple stuff first! Give the redex and fuel filter a try, or try adjusting the idle speed slightly higher, before you go any further into the engine.
