Default Sent my chilli back, was I right to?

So gone out for a bar snack with the wife as only got back from work at 7 and cannot be bothered to cook.

Pub annoyed me wanting to retain my card when I ordered. No way do I leave my card with anyone. They relented and got their own back.

OK my chilli, not a kidney bean in sight, packed full of cheap catering baked beans. I do not do baked beans back it went with an argument with the cook who says that is how he makes a chilli.

Am I grumpy or should I expect kidney beans in a chilli

the second they mentioned that they wanted to retain my card i would have got up and walked out.

rules of serving food. the meal should be described in the menu as in any difference from normal. so you ordered chilli and you got pig swill. yes Tim you are more than justified this time. i would have went further and told the chef to go back to catering school.

I would have left at the point where it had no chilli beans, if I liked them that is.

I don't do sending orders back, I don't like the taste of spit.

Never send anything back and expect a replacement, unless it's a high class place. The rule of eating anywhere is be as nice as pie to the staff until you've eaten your food. Every single person I know who's worked in the catering industry has many stories about spit, pubes, ear wax, you name it. Sometimes for things as simple as "my spoon is dirty". 90% of people who work in that industry are worked to the bone and don't have patience for people who complain and make their lives more difficult, no matter how justified!

OK.it was sent back. Only for off the tab.

Embarrassing is despite me being an occasional and unknown to the new staff customer, the owner knows me for 30 years. in the past I have eaten on an IOU. no leave your card. . Do I tell a life long friend his staff are taking the ****.

As I say it is a mates place. but should i have regrets because his staff are poor?

It's probably you mate's policy to leave a card or not, the staff shouldn't make up the rules. I'd mention to him you notice he wants people to leave payment cards behind the bar now. If he is surprised then the staff could be dodgy, but I bet its his policy. I'd also mention the food wasn't very good, just so he knows
