Default Noobs; avoid buying this SV.

This is a just-in-case post. I went to view this bike last night possibly for the missus, thought £500 (advertised on gumtree) might make it worth while. I walked away because it had a nasty rattle noise coming from the front cylinder as well as needing a good service. The seller tried to tell me it was the front header blowing. I think because i turned up on the girlfriends CG125 he took me as a mug. Anyway if i were a noob again the price might have tempted me to buy it. Don't buy it unless you are prepared for engine work!!!

for £500 what do you want...

i agree that noobs might be better spending more and getting better but at that price i would make a cracking bike to learn how to spanner and have a good bike at the end of it.

Im not saying it wouldn't be! I think the same. But if you don't know what you are looking at and a seller is lieing to you, you might buy it not realising what your buying. Its what i did with my first bike and I'm trying to save someone of the same problem! The reason i didn't buy it is because my SV is in a less than great state right now and didn't want to take more on!

Bit more info if anyone is interested.

It had the original shock however the forks felt great. I don't know if they have emulators but i suspect they have stiffer springs and oil. It was pretty dark and he had the bike against a wall so i couldnt have a good look round it but it looked ok. Not been used in a long time, been sitting outside. No service history whatsoever.

Im not saying don't buy it, just know it might need a fair bit of work.

I paid £700 for a good runner with 27K on it. £500 for this if clonking is well cheeky IMHO.

£500 not bad, I like the high level exhaust, shame it's not in my neck of the woods I may have gone for that for a project bike for the fun of it.

I paid £1600 for a 04 in black from a dealer came fully serviced and hpi checked she only had 14000 on the clock with 2 previous owners.
So 5 for that doesnt seem to bad but if i got it i would want to use it not work on it but the guy does say he knows nothing about it so buyer be where i think.
Not sure if i got a good deal or not but im well happy with my sv so i suppose i did.

I paid 800 for my k1 with 30k with some upgrades and two new bridge stones. I think you could walk away with the bike for 400 cash which would be a good deal.

You could strip it for parts and get your money back.

I do however hate adverts like that. A spell checker would have been useful and a couple more photos.
