Default Oxford Sport Hotgrips?

Anyone got any fitting tips? I have them all wired up and working but cant for the life of me get the left and one on the bar. The right hand one was no problem after modifiying the throttle tube but the left just seems impossibly tight.

Cheers

I also had a nightmare, bit of grease and a lump of wood. Sure it isn't meant to be that tight, but hey it worked. TBH slightly disapointed with the left one's heat distribution. Although wouldn't be surprised if I was the cause!

Can't remember if it was the left or right one when I fitted Roxter heated grips (supposedly rebranded Oxford ones) but one of them did not want to go on. I think I had to take a dremel and various other bits of sandpaper etc to it. As far as I recall it was pretty tight anyway but also had a slight ridge left behind from the release/moulding process. Once this was ground down a bit it went on ok.

Re having one colder grip, I believe this is caused by the difference between the throttle side having the plastic throttle tube effectively act as insulation whilst the other side on the plain metal acts a bit like a heat sink. You could try applying some insulating tape to the bar to reduce the effect a little but...careful, too much tape and you'll need some more dremmeling of the grip!

Left one often feels weaker, this is partly true due to convection f heat through the bars, where as the rhs is insulated by the throttle tube. A large factor though on why the left hand feels colder is if you ride covering the clutch lever.

How about your thumbs? I can't for the life in me keep my thumbs warm the tips are seriously painful by the time I get work/home.

Tip for getting the LHS grip on is hairspray and the heel of a trainer.
Spray the grip and bar heavily in hair spray so its very wet, as the spray dries it gets increasingly harder to get on so act fast, hit the bugger hard with the sole of the shoe and after some panic and swearing it should be on.
When the plastic centre of the grip gets flush with the bar you'll find nothing muh happens, use a dust pan brush handle to push the plastic sleeve further along the bar... Again the shoe is the hammer.

The LHS grip for me was a right bugger. In the end i resorted to a hammer and chain lube. Hairspray didn't work for me. They work fine for me though the LHS one is a bit cooler than the right.

I was told to use alcohol hand rub to lube the grip as it will evaporate away, worked perfect for me and the grip doesn't turn on the bar!!!

Feel free to try all manner of lubrication and battering the bejesus out of it with a hammer. I did too, to the point that the bike was almost coming off its stand. But it was only dremelling the inside of the grip that got it anywhere near fitting on... Along with more hammering. I just think quality control on some grips may not be too great. Dremel, dremel, dremel...

Bear in mind you probably want it to go on easy enough that you have scope for minor adjustment before any adhesive sets. Tricky when you have to hammer the fecker into place.
