Default Removing excess exhaust paste?

Looks like whoever fitted the end can to my bike used a bit too much exhaust paste and there's a fair bit of excess they didnt wipe off the link pipe. Does anyone have any ideas how to remove it without damaging the exhaust? I was thinking maybe using a stanley blade really carefully?

Use a blade and/or fine file then polish.

I have a white stain on my pipe (sounds well doesn't it) from the previous owner, not sure if that is exhaust paste.

Think I'm going to try some Optiglanz stainless steel cleaner and a stanley blade. Will let you know how I get on.
