Default just picked up a curvy

first off, hi, new round here but a regular on the bandit forum and at triumphrat, ive just picked up, for free, a faired curvy, its abit of a shed and needs alot of work, hence being free, i have some plans and idea's but just want to run it by people who know a bit more than me at present.

so far i have established i'll be changing the rear subframe, swingarm and front forks, binning the fairing and also having some mild modifications to the engine (suggestions in how to get more poke out of the 650 are greatly appreciated, already got a lunatic bike for going daft speeds, just want to sv to have abit more go than standard).

from what ive found as a search on here a zx10r rear shock will almost drop into standard rear end with the right bolts, though im guessing if i go with the r6 swinger which no doubt will need some modification, this will no longer be the case.

in terms of forks i was thinking srad 750 forks (when the time comes) i have a friend who can do a stem swap for me, so question is, would any other major changes be needed to fit, or if the stems are swapped can i still use original bearing sizes etc. and thats pretty much sorted?

what swingarms fit generally? i would prefer something light and braced, ie r6 etc. but anything better than stock im open to suggestions aswell as rear shocks to match

and finally, what rear subframes go well/fit the easiest. i like the 2006 zx636 tail but as this is my first attempt at going down this route im open to ideas

anyway, here's a picture of it, post clean, along with my beloved trumpet, sv doesnt look so bad from afar but its crusty as hell and as soon as i start ripping it apart and working on it i''l get a build thread posted up

Welcome .

Doesn't look too bad. Get it's a noises bugger with a straight through pipe like that though. Theirs loads of top people on here with loads of mechanical knowledge. Unfortunately I'm not one of them, but there may be one along soon...

Have a search of the forum. As I'm sure you know, sv's are let down by the suspension for many and are raced by lots. So there's plenty of info about.

I've heard it said before that the crank is the weakest part of the sv engine when tuning. This becomes a problem past 80bhp apparently.

Cheers
Oli

How dooo

Most swingers need modifications, easier to get one built braced, I'm sure VFR and speed triples are two of the easier ones to fit.

Forks, anything that is possible. SRAD is one of the common ones.

Tuning best speak to SV650Racer, Zadar, or JHS racing. New rods, pistons, cams, 39mm flatsides and full exhaust system will give 80+ (and cost about £2,000 for the parts)

Welcome in. SV looks ok not sure about swingarm swap but fork swap is pretty easy just need to swap out the top bearing for this one http://www.twfracing.com/PartsPages/...adbearing.html and fit your srad or newer forks. if your taking the fairing off put it in a box and post it to me.

That's a lot of decent bike you've got for nothing! Is it a non-runner too?

Take it for a spin you may be surprised, zx/gsxr shock / front end swap will properly sort it (even GSXR 600 SRAD K1-3 RWU work well if you dont want to spend loads on USD forks), lets face it a bandit isnt one of trhe best handling bikes out there so a standard SV is comparable

Dont swap the swingarm you will only bugger up the bike geometry.

You can get a proper 76bhp at the rear with a few hundred quid spend or just ride the wheels off it

Injection Cam swap, full ehaust system, BMC Race RS filter 2nd hand off Evilbay

ha ha, fancy seeing you here.

im not too hung up on making it quick, just a bit more pokey for as little as possible

has anyone on here done a successful swinger swap on one of these,am i right in thinking its the vfr400 nc30 swinger that goes in easier or is it the 750 version? got to love a good single sided sdwinger.
i dont want to make it handle worse, but i do need to do something abit its shedliness...i have managed to get the bugger to run though

Default project freebie begins!

well, i started the project...here's how it looked before i had my hands on it

after a quick clean it became a little better

so once dried i got a battery on charge and waited a while... tried to get it started but it wasnt for having it, sooooo off came the airbox, cleaned a load of grime out of that, whipped the fuel pipe off and cleaned some gunk out and then had another crack at it...

i apologise now if pictures are too big...once i actually get to grips with photobucket i'll get them reduced down, i hate the thing and dont have a mass amount of time to sort it out lol.

but...it has begun....
