Default New to the forum and new to the SV650

Hi there. As I'm new to the forum I shall give a quick intoduction to you established members. Im a 20 year old lad, have been riding since i was 12, leart on my dads CBR600F and then done a few track days at the ron haslam race school. I took my cbt in september 09, and passed my test in october 2010, been riding everyday since then. I've owned a xj600diversion, a fzr600, gpz500s and now im on a 1999 sv650s the curvy model as i believe its known as? I must say i love the bike, the low down torque of the engine is incredible, top speed is still impressive, the tank range is a little under what i was expecting with it ony being 123 miles range. My biggest issue is the suspension and brakes, the suspension to me feels so under sprung and the brakes aren't the most affective ones in the world. However i have come across these on ebay... http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/vie...id=86436921697 and was wondering if anyone has any experience with them or should i just stick some progressive springs and heavier fork oil in the front suspension? Also is there any modifications i can do the rear suspension?? I know about the 636 rear shock swap? For the brakes i've just ordered some galfer braided lines but im also wondering if there is anything else i can do to them or if i can bolt on any other calipers?

Heres a picture of my bike

Cheers in advance
Gizzard

Welcome
And your questions;
1, Have a search (it has been covered extensively) but preload adjusters won't do much on thier own. You'll need springs and oil as a minimun really.
2, Search again as there are several options.
3. And brakes are fairly good if kept in top condition. The braided lines will be a good addition though.

welcome .

The budget suspension is a well known draw back to the SV. iv heard a few ways that it can be made better though, just do a quick search of the forum and read through some of the threads.

The brakes are usually quite good though? well, mine are atleast. As said above braided hoses wont hurt, but other than that, i think people tend to be pretty happy with them. Id probably start by changing the brake fluid, you might get abit of an improvement with just that if the fluid is old.

Welcome. I have stuck some progressives and 15w oil up front and it made an improvement. Make sure you have HH sintered pads up front as that will make a difference aswell.

What is bad about the suspension compared to other bikes? I'm new to the sv650 as well and have a '99 Sv650 S and have only ever ridden a Honda City Fly 125 and I used to have an electric scooter. Compared to them I felt the suspension on the SV650 was good. How do you tell if suspension is good or bad?

Rebuild the brakes, or have them done but then you won't know if they really got all the gum out of the seal seats.. I ran fluid seals only too which some will say don't and some will say do..
