SV v Gladius?

Hiya just doing my bike test as some know , and I've been looking at getting an sv as my first big bike . My instructor today said gladius , xj6 would be better as they put less weight on your wrists does this sound right . I'm confused now lol

A naked SV or bar converted SVS will have a more upright position. I did find, pre-conversion, the SV was either bad on the wrists if I was sat correctly, arms parallel with the road, but that caused neck pains.

Converted to handlebars and haven't looked back.

I'm sure someone will let you have a sit on their SV and try it out. Gladius looks to have a more upright position, much like a naked SV.

You dont want to spend lots on your first bike, get naked SV for about £1000 and do a year learning

With the naked sv650 discontinued a couple of years ago, the gladius is the replacement for people that want wider, higher bars, and no fairing. So the choice is mostly about looks and preferred riding position. The gladius and sv650 don't share tons of parts but make the same sort of power, very similar engine, brakes and suspension. The xj6 is Yamaha's effort at the same market. Smoother 4 cylinder engine that makes power when being revved, vs twin cylinder 650 with more grunt at the bottom. They do a similar job in different ways. If you can do test rides you'll find one feels better, or more "you" but realistically there wouldn't be much difference day to day.

As said above, naked sv and gladius are pretty similar position.

Personally, i prefer the sv, i really dont like these dodgey shaped plastic stretched headlights on naked bikes these days. Or am i just old fashioned? Im not old though... Lol

Ive been doing my das on xj6n i kinda like the ride but also like the sv b/f says buy a Gixer i had a go on his i didnt like it one little bit x

I was looking at a used SV but when the Mrs said 'buy a new one', who am i to argue!
Went for a Glad. No issues so far re wrists just wish i could afford a better looking can as the stock one looks poop.

You don't want an inline four, they're for cars. Defo v twin .

Regarding "weight on the wrists" suggest your instructor takes some riding lessons

Use my sv for commuting, around 90mile round trip never had problems with wrist pain at all, it's all in the posture! The sv is a great bike for the money! Some real bargins to be had out there to.
