So I think to myself, I'd love to swap out the risers and bars for clipons for that cafe-racer look (curvy naked). It's something I've been thinking about for a while now.
I had also planned that with the next winter hibernation, I could strip the bike down, in which case I could get the frame/swingarm powder coated black, as I've always liked the look of the pointies with the black frames and black paintwork. Then do the shocks/forks... So am I really worth doing all of this or just getting a Speed Four which has all of the above already!? ![]() Last edited by jamesymurray; 10-04-13 at 08:56 PM. |

Depends on what you want to do, and what you from the bike. If you're going to keep it, go for it and put your stamp on it! If you may change next year, get the S4 now and crack on.

Depends if you love the Vtwin enough to stay with it a while.

To be honest, the SV has been my only bike so I'm not that informed on the whole V-twin/IL4 comparison.
I do love the SV, but I am always thinking 'maybe I could do this, or tweek that' |

Do you love your sv? Do you want to change it because you are unhappy with it? Or just because you like modding? It's not really something anyone else but you can answer tbh |

What ever bike you have it is nice to change things to what you want. I think it depends on how much cash you have spare and if you spend it would you get your money back on your increased investment ////or do you put it back to standard before selling, with time waiting for your money from the sale of the bits
Alternatively buy something that matches your needs putting the money you were going to spend towards it. |

I've gone from an SV to a speed four, as mentioned in a previous thread, its difficult to get used to and I'm still adjusting. But I'm getting more and more fun out of it as I learn to use the engine to its max potential!
![]() Just remember, the SV is a "softer" and "easier" bike to ride, the speed four is a naked SPORTS bike. Hope this helps ![]() |

Also make sure you get a good one! and if its done over 24000, make sure its had the valves done recently! Its a very expensive job as I found out to my expense!

Definitely not unhappy with it. it's a hoot!
I guess what made me toy with the idea in my mind was weighing up the cost/effort between undertaking a lot of work verses getting something 'off the peg'. I think what Mikey has said has made me more inclined to stick with the SV, the very reason I went for it to start with. Having not been on two wheels a terribly long time, the fact the S4 is, in essence, a naked sports bike, i'm just not experienced enough to make the step up to something like that yet. The SV feels, provided I stay in control, not too much to handle. Tinkering with the SV will also let me learn more about working on bikes. Mind made up for the meantime..! |

I wasn't experienced enough either when I got on mine first time.
I quickly settled in though. Thing is if your going to look to add clip ons, uprate the suspension and try to get more power it would be much cheaper to get an S4 because it comes with everything better as stock but if all you want is clip Ons then grab a set off Ebay, they won't be that expensive and you can return it to how it Was to sell. Nothingreallylost except time. |
