Default New toy trumpet!

I picked up a brand new Street Triple (2013) this morning from Laguna in Maidstone. I'd originally gone to look at a used purple 2012 model with 4k on the clock, but they were doing a great deal on the 2013 non-abs models, so it was only a few hundred quid more to buy new.

I've only put around 60 miles on it so far, but it's a lovely bike to ride. It's running it, so I'm limited to around 5k rpm (60mph) at the moment, but the engine is just gorgeous and the handling seems superb. The only downside seems to be the budget rear shock, which is very harsh. It gave me a hard kick up the @rse going over quite a small bump in the road at about 50mph earlier. I'll see if I can get used to it, but otherwise a shock upgrade might be on the cards.

This also means that I'm going to be putting my 2010 Tiger 1050 up for sale. I'll post a proper ad in the 'for sale' section once I've got some decent photos. In the meantime, if anyone is looking for one, then send me a pm.

Nice one

Check the settings mate, I've rode two of these and even for a heavy bloke like me, the shock was fine.

had one out on test while my Speed3 was in for work - Must admit that when you can crack past that 5k limit you will not be dissapointed, even with the neutered 'arrows' option on it sounded so nice my licence was constantly in jeapordy!

I've clicked the preload up one notch, which seems to have helped with the harshness. It still seems very hard compared with the Tigers plush suspenders, but I guess that's because its a sportier bike.

The running in period is OK, as it stops me from going too bonkers on an unfamiliar bike. It won't take me long to put 500 miles on it. I used to have a Speed Triple, but I reckon the the Street is going to be a better choice for London riding and commuting.

How heavy are you?

Turn preload down not up and try that, can always revert back to factory settings.

Does the rear shock have rebound / compression adjustment?

It's the standard model so the rear shock only has preload. The R model has a better shock with rebound and compression.

Preload has settings from 1 to 5, where 1 is the factory setting. The manual recommended setting 1 for rider only, and 5 for rider with pillion. I've set it to 2, which is still hard, but doesn't seem so harsh.

I'm around 76kg, so not particularly lardy. That's why I was surprised that the suspension seemed to bottom out on a slight bump on a normal A road at around 50mph.

You sure it's bottoming out?

My explorer when not loaded feels slightly harsh at times but fine when the wife or luggage is on the back, that's only set for slightly higher than factory but I'm 100kgs, my suspension doesn't bottom out.

Like I said, I've ridden two streets and they handled my weight fine and being a loaner I did thrash it a bit on roads I know, suspension didn't bottom once.

I'm fairly sure it's just settings, at your weight you shouldn't need to replace a brand new shock.

I'm not 100% sure it bottomed out, but it did give me a seriously hard kick in the @****. I've ridden a couple of loan Streets before (2012 and 2013 models) and didn't experience anything like that, though I only rode the 2013 loan bike for about an hour.

I have the 2012 R, and the shock is fine on standard setting,(still tweeking a bit though) It can feel like it is bottoming out, but i don't think it actually is.
