hi all,
i got my red sv650 05 plate with lots of mot paper work etc which proves that it has done 26k, the dealer wanted 2700 but got it down to 2500. the bike had three previous owners and in good condition. it is going to come with 1 year mot( they will do it this week) and no tax is that a good price? it comes with 1 month warranty as well what are the things i should check to ensure it is going to run past the 1 month warranty what are the common faults with them and generally how much do you guys spend on services and how often( maybe miles) finally i have seen some sv650 that have a full fairing, are they a special edition or just people have bought them and install it what i mean is fairing over the sides of the engine covering the radiotor etc it did also have ramus exhust which i think is around £150ish and security tag i am new to this forum so sorry for many questions at one go thanks Last edited by stranger12; 12-05-13 at 12:32 PM. |

Have you bought it or are you still negotiating?I would take a hard look at all the consumables such as chain /sprockets,tyres brake pads and when it next needs a service. These are all cost items which need to be considered on a bike of this age.It is 7/8 years old and seems expensive to me,but if you buy from a dealer you have to pay the premium. Is it immaculate and never been damaged?

looking at it it looked good. it had few marks here and there but no major
i noticed that the rubber pipes which maybe a brake pipe where slightly deteriorated on where the brake reservoir is but not major i could change it the chain looked ok but rusty as i think the bike may have been parked for 2 3 month didn't check the sproket but pads and all the rest were all good i agree about the dealer premium but if you buy it private and it died the day after what can you do ? and yes have put the deposit down tyres also ok, how much do they cost ? overall was all good a bit of rust on the exhaust pipe and radiator i think |

I'd take another look at others. Mines an 04 so a little older than yours, but it's done 18,000 miles and got it for £2100. It's immaculate condition albeit with no real historical service history. It did have a full service before I got it though and all receipts for that. This is from a dealership with 3 months warranty.
Bad points - Needs a new rear tyre and the chain is looking like it might want replacing so you've £200 or so there to take into account. For this I'd be looking at somewhere between £2300 and £2500. Last edited by Phil 1; 12-05-13 at 01:07 PM. |

the thing is the exhust ramus is around £340 as advertised on their website for brand new so maybe £150 for second hand
also the part history and lots of mot papers is sort of like history . i agree that it may be a bit expensive but as i am not a bike expert didn't want to risk getting it from private dealer. when i say rusted, is it not good enough to just clean it and oil it ? it had plenty of adjustment left so maybe not that bad it also had a high flow k&N filter |

If you aint bought it yet Google gobuybikes.com and also charlies motorcycles in Bradford mate. They both have 58 plate black fully faired bijes in with less miles for around 2.5k.
Know for a fact that Charlie will take 2.4k for his with 21k and give the same sort of warranty as that's what I got him down to before deciding the black was not for me. does full service and 12 months mot as standard etc and seems ok for a dealer. |

Surface rust isn't anything to worry about and should usually come off with some elbow grease.
As far as aftermarket exhausts etc are concerned, it shouldn't have any bearing on price at all if you're buying from a dealer. You need to look into the legality of these exhausts too as they don't always meet MOT standards for noise. If it's too noisy then the dealership must supply you with either a standard exhaust as well, or some sort of baffle so that it's ok to pass a test, check this first because it might come back to bite you in the balls at a later date. I'd certainly hang fire for the time being though as it seems a little OTT. |

i made a mistake then and have overpaid but not much can do i guess as have paid deposit
i should maybe check the bike in the month and if any issues then return it, is fork failure or things like that common with them ? i think the 650 has two radiator, is that correct ? one small at buttom and one slightly bigger so maybe oil and water i wish i did post here before buying my sv650 |

If no no paperwork signed mate you can get deposit back as sans paperwork its a gentleman's agreement and has no bearing in a British Court of law.
may sulk but no problem for you to be honest. |

You'll only get a deposit back if there's written agreement of getting deposit back should you change your mind. A receipt isn't enough. If you're happy with the bike then keep it and enjoy it, but in future do a little homework just to make sure you're not paying over the odds.
Yeah it's got two radiators, the smaller lower one is an oil cooler but it's predominantly water cooled by the upper larger radiator. I don't know of any major issues with forks etc other than it's normal to get a knock sometimes from the front end, but they all do it and it's nothing to worry about.
