My luverly SV!
![]() K 8, 45k - full service history up to 15k at which point all servicing done by me/local bike shop/Yorkie_Chris. Good bits - probably one of the most unique SV's on the planet! GSXR750 K7 front end (forks, wheel, discs) Penske triple clicker shock, serviced 200 miles ago and sprung for a 12-13st rider Racing adjustable rearsets Fabbri double bubble screen Pazzo shortie levers CNC clutch cover Mini-hugger/shock protector Powder coated alternator cover Powder coated pillion pegs Rear seat cowl Smoked indicators Evotech tail tidy Stubbied Carbon Can Company exhaust R&G crash bungs R&G cotton reels/paddock stands Scottoiler Bibio's adjuster plates Bibio's external device wiring thingy (not fitted) SW Motech aluminium rack Oil stem seals replaced 3k miles ago New steering head bearings in last month New front wheel bearings New front tyre fitted 2-300 miles ago Rear tyre done around 3k Just had oil & filter changed MOT'd (no advisories) until June 2014 Taxed until June 2014 New pads & fluid front and back in last 200 miles. ![]() Not so good bits:- Cat D write off in 2009, fairing damage, levers and exhaust - opted to write off so I could buy back and fix up. Few scuffs to rear fairings from bungies etc. Have a set of repaired/resprayed fairings that I would include. General minor imperfections to bodywork - nothing major, most would probably polish out. Small tear (1cm) on pillion seat You wouldn't need to add anything other than rim tape to customise this any further ![]() Last edited by Nobbylad; 12-06-13 at 02:38 PM. |

I would say it's probably worth a lot more if you were to break it for parts than sell as a whole, with that mileage you'd normally expect about 2k for a standard bike. Hard to tell with all the upgrades though. The fact its been written off will discourage a lot of people.

looking around at bike prices i would say about the £3k mark but this all depends on the buyer who would have to know about SV's to appreciate what the bike is.
one of the biggest problems will be insurance for the new owner if they are of the younger type so i would make this aware at time of sale. your bike has a little more fancy stuff than mine and if i was looking to sell (which will never ever happen) it would be about £2.5k. |

I'll tell you my trail of thought as I viewed that listing, bare in mind this is my opinion. It may be shared by others but I dont speak for them, just me.
I can see its tidy so disregard the high(er than alternatives) mileage. I look at the obivious gsxr750 front end then the text I see the word penske and straight away I'm thinking I'd drop £3k down on that. Then I read that its a Cat D, means little to you as its your bike you know its sound but as soon as I read it I recount the horrors I had trying to sell my Cat D. At the time it was a 3.5 old bike with 25k on the clock, few tasty upgrades (nowt quite as tasty as yours mind). But that only sold for £1800 after spending 3 weeks worth of ebay auctions at £2000 starting price without a single bid. What you think its worth, What you think the Cat D means to you, What you think the level of damage means to others all means jack squiddle to the buyers market. While I agree with Lance that I'd happily spend £3000 on a bike of that spec. The Cat D brings it down, it also brings the mileage back into review which it didnt until I discovered its a Cat D. So I start thinking, how much would I be willing to pay to disregard the Cat D. £2000? Yeah sure, so I go higher. £2500? hmmm tentative, £2750? No, go lower £2250? Yeah ok - depends on tax/MOT etc so I now know I'm the right region. Conclusion: £2250 if its about to run out of MOT/Tax, £2500 if its got decent levels of both. If you've got the parts to return it to stock, do so. Sell off the mods seperately, if you dont have the stock bits then keep it or break it. In my opinion. |

I agree that, with all the personal modifications it will never get that money back (and I have done with the work with no intention to sell so don't expect what I spent back either) So good starting point would be £2.5k tops considering cat D and mileage.
However, as an SV owner, I'd say there probably at least £4k's worth of bike there. Most importantly, how much do you want for the clutch cover? ![]() ... no, i'm actually serious. |

catd is pretty much gravel rash and as long as the parts that were damaged were replaced properly then all is well.

But if you're the one holding the cash, its always enough to make you look at alternatives and the only way to maintain a buyers focus is to bring the price down to restore balance. To say it another way, ignore the mods imagine its bog standard: HPI Clear K8 with 45k on it, whats that worth £2000 tops on a private market? Still bog standard but make it a Cat D K8 with 45k on it and it seems fair to suggest £1500 if priced to sell ahead of the other HPI clear examples out there. Thats knocked £500 off the none Cat D price and I'd apply the same logic to the nicely spec'd example like Nobbys. £3k if HPI clear, Cat D knocks £500 off = £2500 tops. Thanks guys I do appreciate the time taken to respond in the way you have.
Bibs is right re: the Cat D status, but I know how it rings alarm bells with people. I think I started a thread on here after my accident, which detailed the damage and what happened with the insurance etc. Anyhow, yes, it's had a shed load of money thrown at it to make it unique and I appreciate that the mods were done to make me happy, not to increase re-sale value. I never thought I would sell it and that I'd just run it into the ground and keep it going until it gave up, however I've more or less decided that I want another bike. So I either buy another one and keep this, or sell this to go towards the next steed. I don't have a garage and don't really want to tax/insure 2 bikes, so need to get as much as I can for this puppy. I'll be so gutted to see it go but then again, I want another bike experience after 5yrs of the SV. |

hey Nobby, have you thought about putting a comfort bar kit on it?
it really does turn it into a different bike to ride. |

Hi Lance - no!
I have thought about trying to put a 750 engine in it lol! I had a quick blast on Dave Prezzo's K3 once we'd put the Gixer front end on and he had Renthals I think. It was a completely different ride, akin to 'stag' handlebars on a pushbike when I was a kid. I love sporty bikes, the SV was bought from new to get back in the saddle after too many years away and it's been absolutely awesome. Commuter, tourer, track dayer, but I have been bitten by the bug for change. I know I'll get another bike and I'll be sad to see the SV go, if I keep it as a commuter/track day blaster, then OK - but I could do with shifting it to raise funds towards my next adventure! ![]() |
