Default Hastings direct insurance opinions?

Hi folks!

It's that time of year again... Renewal!
My cheapest quote is coming in from Hastings direct.
Does anyone have any experiences of them? I've personal never heard of them.
Any advise gratefully received.

The only experience I had with them was when a van backed into me and they were his insurers.
They were quite brilliant I must say.

I have had cars insured with them no problems for me but I didn't have to claim so may have been a bit different if I did...

I was with them for car and bike for many years, but their prices went up a couple of years ago so I swapped.I would insure with them again if the price was right.

I've just been on the phone arguing with Hastings Direct, £35 admin fee. Robbing fecks. I asked why it was so much for a few minutes clicking a mouse.

Hes spiel about updating the underwriter and posting out new documents, got me really wound up.

Hey! Thanks for all your comments.
Regarding the admin fee I understand your rage. I am currently with Swinton bikes and I recently moved address. Called to notify them off the change and they charged me £25 for it even though i only had 1.5 months left on the policy. I wrote a letter of complaint and received a cheque for £20. Although Hastings seem to be offering a cheaper renewal price. Got a couple of weeks to sort something out.
Again thanks for replies so far!

Just renewed with Hastings for the second year. All very good and helpful but have not had to claim. Fees are all listed up front and not that different from anyone else but you can usually a get a reduction if you haggle and it's a bit grey.
Interesting that their renewal was cheaper than a lot of the usual suspects 'come join us' price. That doesn't happen too often!

I had various policies with Hastings for cars and bikes over the years. Never had to claim but have had various dealings with them, always been helpful and efficient. They will often waive fees for change of address etc if you speak to the right people.

Better than one company whom I cant even remember the name of who charged me £45 to cancel a policy within the cooling off period!
