Shouldn't be over full when upright. Somewhere in between when upright not on rear paddock stand either.

ok, its just such a huge difference considering the lean angle on the side stand. will overfill damage the bike?

Officially yes, damaging gaskets and oil seals however alot of people tend to go with a little more is better than not enough.

Too much can also be as bad as not enough. If it was me I would undo the sump plug and let a bit out when upright so it sits just under the full mark.

If it was me and it was overfilled, i wouldnt touch the sump. No doubt half the oil will spill out, just syringe it from the top will be easier and less messy.

The bike needs to have its oil level checked with both wheels level and the bike upright.
If the bike's on the side stand you put quite a bit more oil in than you should. If you use a rear paddock stand and no front stand the motor's tilted forwards, you'll under fill with oil. Jambo Sent from my thingie
