Default SRAD 600 rear wheel on a Pointy?

Yo! So yeah, I've been cruising about this forum for a little while but just failed to actually post anything. I thought I should probably start now!

I have a pointy SV650 and I'm planning on putting a 180 rear tyre on. I know it's not standard and I know a lot of people think it'll slow turn in. I use the bike every day though and part worns are a beautiful thing! I cannot find any 160 part worns ever. The 180s also look pretty good.

So yeah, I had some advice that an SRAD 600 rear wheel would fit so have bought one. Now I cannot find anything anywhere that says if anyone has fitted one? I'm going to give it a go anyway, I'm just wondering if it's going to be a complete waste of time even trying.

I know the wheel will line up in the centre easily enough, it's more the sprocket alignment I'm thinking about.

It's a 1998 gsxr SRAD 600 rear. I have the cush rubbers, sprocket carrier, disc etc. The sprocket is flat, no dish or anything so can't be flipped.

The carrier is like this so it could be machined:

I'm planning on machining a new sprocket carrier spacer too if need be to align the sprocket. It looks like the chain is going to be very close to the tyre anyway though (without measuring).

So yeah, massive post... waffled on a bit but yeah, put simply, has anyone done it with this wheel?

Cheers!

p.s, couldn't see an introduction section hence no introduction!

Strike that, looks like I'll have about 10mm clearance between the inner edge of the chain and the tyre so plenty of room for movement.

Welcome to the org there have been a few how too's its quite a hot subject some like it some dont. Me I love it and will be doing the mod once I have the money. There is someone on ebay doing the conversion all you got to do is sent them the parts they require and then they send them back once machined. Only prob is there in usa so postage is quite expensive goto ebay and type sv650 rear wheel conversion or ebay item number 150876012005

Cheers for the reply! Yeah, I've been trying to find people who can do it with a srad wheel and had no luck.

Spent a few hours today measuring up the two wheels and after much swearing I think I've got it all down! The centre line to each point measures up bang on now so having the bits machined tomorrow! It's a very tight fit but it's looking good. Should have my bike back on tarmac tomorrow!

Positioned the new wheel in there and it looks sick! I don't think the 160 looks right at all. Love everything else about the sv!

The good thing is, a srad wheel matches perfectly with the sv front and is lighter so all round good stuff. Looks better than the k7 gsxr rim as it looks oem!

Cool pehaps you should post up pics of all the bits required and measurments needs and a build thread. Also rough cost for parts required might be popular as I know there are others like us that like the look of the wider wheel

Did you look at the ebay posting I put up it shows all the parts required that would need machining

Yeah I'll get it all working then check it all. I'm using a 525 chain hopefully, I've measured it all up for a 525 but not trial fitted it yet as I don't have time! I need the bike rolling again within 2 days so it's either gonna work perfectly or I'm screwed! My rear tyre was shot to bits.

Yeah, had a look at that ebay listing, it's completely different to the setup I'm using. Hopefully there are no problems I have overlooked!

The parts I am machining are as follows:

Original sv caliper hanger milled down (including swing arm lug cut down)
New spacer between the hanger and the wheel bearing,
Cush drive spacer milled down,
Sprocket mounting face milled down.
New spacer the other side of the sprocket carrier.

Looking like I'll have only a few mm between the tyre and the chain which I guess is why people use a 520 chain. Gonna see how it goes though

The most expensive bit is the machining really. In total mine has cost me around £100 but I'm having the machining done for free (workshop I used to work in!). I'll work out roughly how much it would cost to do once it all complete. I'm. Guessing a few hundred all in with a new tyre.

(however, part of my reason for this is part worns. Ebay has tonnes ALL the time!)
