Default SDHC card help needed!

I have a few SDHC cards that I use in my cameras. One is a SanDisk Extreme 8gb and the other is a Transcend 8gb. Both class 10s and both read by my computer until last night. They both read fine in the cameras and both can be accessed via the camera when hooked up via usb. But when put into a usb card reader the pc flashes up that they need formatting. If I try to format it fails. If I use Paragon HD manager it goes crazy with an I/O error. Properties brings the card up as RAW file system and zero bytes with size unknown. Any ideas or are the cards dead? The usb reader and the front panel on my system both read standard sd ok. Same error on Mac.
Any ideas?

Can your camera format the cards?

Either that or try it in another pc.

I've read some negative reviews on the sandisc class 10 cards, It was on the micro sd in fairness though.

Can format them with the camera ok, but not a pc with Win7, laptop on XP Pro or a Mac on Mountain Lion. Cameras can read and write these cards ok which is bizarre.

What camera is it, how old are the cards, how times have they been used even cards have a shelf life. Is there any data on them?

Let me know the answer to the questions, but in reality if I have cards that fail they are only good for the bin.

Nikon D3200 and a Fuji HS10. The Sandisk card is about 6 months old, the transcend a little older. Both worked fine until the other night and now they don't read in computers. Can access fine via camera over usb.

Just a thought, are you sure it's the cards that are at fault? Two different cards failing at the same time? Could it be the card reader? Have you tried a different card reader? Especially as the cards work with the camera hooked up via USB.

I haven't used that camera (I'm a cannon fan boy, it whats generally used in the film world) it sounds to me like that the camera is working as it should be, the only thing I can think there that when it formats the cards that its not doing it correctly, however as its recorded data that wouldn't seem the case.

I'd suspect the problem likes either in the card reader, the software or the actual cards themselves. Cards are prone to failure, but I do agree two going is a bit odd, however it can happen. I'd get a known good card, card reader, computer shoot some footage and see what happens. If there cheap cards bin them anyway, I wouldn't risk it. If they have footage on them I need, them I seek further advice. Thats what I would if it was a shoot I was on and I needed to check all the kit before going anything further or filming.

Might just get a better card reader first. The reader is fine with standard SD/mmc but won't work with SDHC. Make the three SDHC cards.

I'd confirm your SD card reader supports SDHC
