Slightly miffed this morning!
Went to petrol station on way to work this morning, filled up, went inside. Stood in queue. CRASH alarm goes off!!
Look out window. F**K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My pride and joy is looking a little sorry for itself lying on it's side!! Didn't know whether to scream, cry or kill everyone in the surrounding area! Mirror smashed, as is the rear indicator, clutch lever bent, as too gear shifter. But worst of all rear plastic is mullered. This is one S***e Friday morning. Can't quite figure out how it fell over on the stand side! Possibly wind assisted? It had been stood for at least 5 mins before she fell over. Gutted. |

Re: Slightly miffed this morning!
Bugger, there ain't many worse feelings
End of August, on the first day of an eight day welsh trip my explorer fell over after being parked on its centre stand for 10 hours, it was parked on firm grass next to my mates holiday bungalow, rain must've softened it and it sunk in then fell against a wall. A 250kgs monster of a bike makes a horrible noise when it falls over. |

Re: Slightly miffed this morning!
We've all been there pal, I parked up at a scrap yard. Came out to find my bike on its side it had been parked between 2 trucks so my suspicion was someone had tried to reverse into the same spot and didn't see my bike until they knocked it over. Then feck'd off... conveniently the scrap yard did have the parts I needed to replace although it did make the trip more expensive than I first imagined.

Re: Slightly miffed this morning!
Every bike I have owned has ended on it's side (or worse) at some point. Scheisser happens!
Still one hell of a bummer though mate.

Re: Slightly miffed this morning!
Keep an eye out on ebay for the bits, but also check new dealer prices, panels for the SV aren't too bad.
As above, you're not the first, I thought the side-stand was down good an firmly the other day, it wasn't... I've also parked at the head of a set of bikes at the side of a French road and put on my waterproofs. The camber on the French roads acts against the side stand as you park on the right, I lifted up my left panier to close it again. This looked exactly to the group I was with as if I had simply decided to throw my bike into a ditch. Thankfully we had a good giggle about that and I had some spare levers under the seat. Jambo

nowt worse. i had just finished polishing my last pride and joy, turned round to put stuff away and crash, bike on its side.
i now put the bike in gear roll forward till it stops then put side stand down. especially when its windy. |

Re: Slightly miffed this morning!
Mr LPH is constantly annoyed with me that I leave my bike in gear when parked, but because the GS is lowered but the stand remains the same length it means the bike always feels precarious on the side stand, especially on any sort of slope.
Messie almost had her SV roll off the stand at the 09 AR, as the was parked up in the middle of a long row of bikes if it had gone over it might have caused a domino style ripple of bikes knocked over which would have been expensive!
