Hi guys I know this question has been asked before but I'm planning to take out my cct's to check them out and see if they need replacing as I have a tapping/rattling noise coming from the front of my engine which has got worse gradually over the last few months, ( a link to a YouTube video of my bike and the noise - m.youtube.com/watch?v=0CuUzr8RtSY)
I've done a few searches but before I actually do it, just checking to make sure I've got my facts right, from What I gather the process is ...... * lift tank and remove airbox *locate cct, top one should be on left side of engine just under where airbox was removed from. * remove 10mm bolt in middle of cct * remove 2 retaining bolts holding the unit in * withdraw unit from the bike I've read that putting it back in can be tricky but I'm sure once its out I'll find out how to get it back in I've read enough to believe I know how to re install anyhow ! for some reason feels like I've missed something... hopefully someone can tell me if I'm on the right lines or not ? cheers in advance guys ![]() |

I've used the search function but as someone who's not used to working on bikes I want to be sure I know what to do before hand, I've searched but I just wanted clarification

Procedure for removal and re-installation is in Chapter 3 of the Maintenance Manual (Engine). This is the curvy MM.
Re-installation is covered starting on page 3-111. A special tool is required, but it's easy to make one. It can be tricky, mainly because of limited access. |

They're crap as standard, you can fit later ones but I can't find which year, bu tthye're the normal ratchet type. To get yours out you ideally need the holding tool which is bascially a screwdriver you don't have to hold. As you undo the retaining bolts the tensioner keeps tensioning i.e plunger extends more, if you operate the screw (flathead) under the end plug then it backs off the tensioner. The rear is a nightmare to reach. The later ratchet ones are easy to fit and I did it maybe 30k miles ago, you jsut fit the body then the end plug and at that point it adjusts itself, plus they don't stick.

Found it - K3. You need the complete assembly including the end plug. I don't thik they're a lot of money.
Refitting your current ones is tricky at the back especialy, you need to hold the internal flathead screw against spring tension which getting it in and getting the bolts in at least finger tight. Don't do it unless you have to! |
