Default Converting a naked SV650 to a faired ?

I have a 2000 curvy naked SV650, but can I convert it to a faired ? I'm sure i can as all the fairing mount points are there ? I know I will also need a faired light assembly instead of my single glass.
Complicated ?
Anything else I will need ?

I plan on keeping the bars as standard and everything else as standard, i just want that little bit more wind protection (plus I think they look great !)

It's possible but a fair bit of work is involved. You need longer cables/hoses for brakes etc for a start, as well as to source all the parts you need.

What are you trying to achieve? Better wind protection, or is it for looks?

If it's the former, there are plenty of 3rd party options that will bolt on around the headlight to give you what you need. Another option is the Raptor2 headlight/fairing unit i have fitted to mine.

General consensus is it's easier to sell yours and buy a faired one, than do all the work. Some have persevered though!

You often see people taking the fairing off to make a naked bike but I've never seen it the other way around.

I agree with atassiedevil, it may be easier to sell your bike and buy a faired model, you'll need to find the right brackets and weld (or bolt, I don't know) them in the right place which for some may involve taking the engine out (again, I don't know but looking at where some of them are you'd have a hard time getting them in) it seems like quite a lot of work... Unless of course you're just thinking of putting the front fairing on, not doing a fully faired bike :P
Agreeing with him again, a small front cowl could do the job seeing as you get a small screen for wind protection

There are a surprising number of differences between the 2 bikes in terms of total components.

Bars, top & bottom yokes, switchgear, throttle & choke cables, clocks, front wiring sub-loom, foot peg mounts, brake master cylinder, headlight, radiator, even swing arm & final gearing (sprocket sizes).

However, given you've said you'd be keeping the current bars, the challenge is not related to raising the bars and needing longer cables.

To physically mount the fairing, you'd need a front sub-frame, headlight, side light, screen, all 3 centre left & right fairing panels, wing mirrors, front indicators plus any mounting bolts & grommets. There are 2 plastic in-fills behind the mirrors that would be neat but are not functional.
The side fairing panels pop into a mount point on the radiator that the N does not have, so swapping this out might make sense rather than cutting the panel mounts off. There are also 2 fairing mounting points from inside the frame that attach by the back of the headstock that you'd need to get.

The front loom will depend on your choice of clocks, if you're going to use an "S" set of clocks, then the front loom from that would work. If you're keeping the "N" clocks then you may need to create a loom with connectors for the N clocks and S lights. Not sure which would be the best way to start there. Perhaps with both, a pair of side cutters & a soldering iron.

A few people have mounted high bars to an S, I'd have a look at those to gauge clearance for the bars & brake master cylinder. I've not done it so don't know how much contact or not there might be.

Thanks for the replies guys.
As i thought it is not straight forward at all ! I have a puig screen on mine but doesn't seem to give me that much wind protection (will upload photies later !)
Don't really want to sell mine as I love her (and have just spent £500 on her!), so will get saving and buy a second, faired one

p.s. I like the look of the Raptor 2 fairing atassidevil, how easy to fit it ?

You can get curvies quite cheaply now, i got my fully faired 02 for £650 so it'll probably be more cost effective to buy another one than to convert yours haha

I can fit 2 in the garage, it's just the convincing of the Missus as to why I need 2 !! (May struggle to hide 2nd one seeing as the tumble dryer is in the garage ! ha ha)

The raptor is pretty easy to fit. Take off the headlamp, and bolt to the existing supports.

I made up some 1/2 in spaces out of old radiator hose, to keep it all parallel, and used the raptor brackets to mount it as high as possible for as much wind protection as i could get.

You'll need to build a small bridging loom between the main headlamp connector and the raptor one (3 wires) plus a 2 pin connector for some running lights from the existing sidelight connector.

I'd also keep your standard indicators and fit some clear running lights on the fairing where the inbuilt indicators are. Keeps you legal, as as standard that comes with no running lights. Total cost, from memory was about £50.
Keeps the wind off me up to about 80, and the colour out of the box was an almost perfect match to the bike. I added matching MX style handguards eventually for a bit more protection.
