Default Service advice? Curvy.

Hi guys, I decided to service my SV650SX 1999 this weekend and been having a problem finding a suitable coolant/anti-freeze for it and my other problem is getting the old oil filter off, it looks pretty old and I've used a strap remover but this ones on so tight it snapped it! I measured it at 66mm 14 flute

What I want to know is..

What type of coolant do I need

is 66mm 14 flute the right size for a cup wrench to remove it?

thanks

For the oil filter, buy the correct cup wrench with a 1/2" socket drive hole and you'll get it off no problem. You'll find one cheap on ebay. Best idea with coolant is to get the original manufacturer product then you should have no issues. It may cost a bit more but is the best idea in the long run.
Cheers.

The cooling system on your bike is just like what's on a car. Any antifreeze that you would put in your car, you can put in your bike.

You can drive an old Phillips screwdriver or something similar through the filer and use that to break it loose.

+1, if you're replacing it anyway! I did this on an old scirocco once, worked a treat!

Having a hot engine and oil make the filter come off a lot easier than with a cold one.
Halfords antifreeze is fine

Just tried this and how wrong. It didn't even break it loose just ripped the sides of the can open.

Default Service advice? Curvy.

Have seen it done many times. Drive the screwdriver through and use it as a lever to unscrew the filter

Both of the options you've tried should have got it to move. Maybe a daft question but are you turning it the right way? Get a pair of swan neck grips with a decent handle length, grip round the filter and turn. They will have no issue providing you do it right.

I made a dent with a flat head screwdriver on the base and angled it counter-clockwise - loosened up much better than the screwdriver through the filter theory.

Thanks for those who replied with advice.

All service is done now, although I thought I'd get more help from this site.
