Hi,
I have a 2006 SV650S, bought a couple of months ago. When I was cleaning the air filter for the first time I noticed a couple of copper terminal blocks joining wires together in front of the airbox. Further investigation while I was messing about with the STVA showed that a previous owner had used these to connect two wires from the ignition switch (orange and red) to wires in the main loom. It looks like one of the connectors in the green connector had burned out, so presumably that's why. The insulation tape they'd wrapped round the terminal blocks was falling off (hot and oily there I guess), and I got some sparks while moving the wires around so I thought best to replace with a proper connector. My chosen replacement is a "Metri-pack 280" connector (as here), all nicely sealed etc, and rated to 30 amps. I may be being paranoid, but does anyone know the maximum current these wires (orange and red from the ignition switch) are likely to take, or alternatively what the original connector is rated to? Secondly, the new connector is fairly chunky and it's now sitting right beneath where air seems to be drawn into the airbox. Given that the area is already fairly busy with cables and connectors, am I likely to see much restriction of the airflow? I know there are a lot of threads about green connector issues so apologies if this is going over old ground, but from what I can tell most people seem to solder the wires together or they don't mention which connectors they use in the end. Cheers, Ben |

Nice connector mister. It won't be under-rated, don't fret. Re. the space around, a pic would help.

Thanks for your reply. Here's a picture of the connectors in place with the airbox lid removed (the green connector is still joining two wires):
tn_IMG_0832.JPG It's a bit tricky to photograph with the airbox lid attached, but here it is from the right side: tn_IMG_0804.JPG ...and from the left side: tn_IMG_0807.JPG All four wires run straight across the front of the airbox then through the front of the frame. From looking at some other posts I wonder if whoever bodged the fix previously re-routed the wires so they're now in the wrong place. Should the ignition wires run from the loom backwards under the frame rail just in front of the throttle bodies then around that rail? Seems like a bit of a convoluted path but it would avoid being right under the intake I suppose. |

Pics in this thread may help answer your question.
http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=168184 The green connector is not in it's original position but this may be due to length of available wiring to mend the fault.

Ok so it looks like it does loop around that rail. Given that Suzuki deliberately routed it that way I'm guessing it's better for it to be out of the way.
I'll try moving the green connector and my new one to the proper location. If there's not enough wire I might need to get creative... |
