Default Insurance dilemma!

Long story short, hoping to get new bike this week.
Old bikes insurance expires end of July.
To change the insurance over now will cost £30 admin plus extra (cross that bridge when I come to it!)
Options as I see it,
1. take out new policy on new bike (would I miss out on a years ncb for a month?)
2. change bike on existing policy for costs (old bike is only tpft and I want FC but can not change policy type!)
3. start a new insurance policy, pay 1st month then cancel and then start new policy at end of July on new bike with another years ncb.
4. get some temp insurance (is this possible? google is not very helpful!)

Has anyone been in a similar situation? If so what did they do or what do people think my best option is?
Thanks

Option 1 is the only decent way forward I can see. You're tying yourself in knots to avoid losing a years NCB.
It isn't worth the grief really. I'd go option 1 and have done similar in the past.

Edit... I recently cancelled a policy with one month remaining and opened a new 2 bike policy with the same company. I lost my NCB for that year but they didn't charge a cancellation fee and refunded me a months premium (I paid a year in advance).

That was with Bennets. Presumably they were so decent because my new 2 bike policy was going through then too. If you're considering covering the new bike with the same company try giving them a call a discussing your options.

No idea if this would save any money in the long term:

Get a quote for the bike through a comparison site, compare with/without the extra years no claims, then decide which is the most cost effective.

Another option would be to delay buying the new bike for a month, then change insurance at the time the policy ends.Be aware that you may struggle to change the bike on your existing policy.Common practice is for them to decline to insure the new bike on that policy, presumably to get customers to cancel it,with a charge, and take out a new policy, with no ncd earned.Win win for them, lose lose for the customer.

If I saw that admin fee on the proposal form, I wouldn't go with them. My GSXR is £95 comprehensive. so a 30% admin fee would be ridiculous.

If I were you, I would delay getting the new bike until the current policy expires and then insure the new bike with an extra year. It sounds like you need the ncb if you are actually thinking of taking a temp policy.

Looks like its all good, a quick phonecall to Bennetts and an helpful lady on the other end gave me my answer.
Although it looks like I will have to stay at TPFT for the remainder of my current deal which although not ideal is no biggie as it is only 23 days the adjustment fee will be £37.64 inclusive of a £30 admin fee.
As I am into my renewal period then my NCB will get the additional year as long as I do not claim before then of course.
Then if I choose to renew with Bennetts then the £30 admin fee will be taken off next years premium.

Default Insurance dilemma!

Why not speak to the current insurer? When I changed bike last year it had a month left to run. They offered to let me renew a month early with the new bike and keep the NCD and avoid the admin fee. I haggled a bit and got a premium that compared with the best of the comparison sites.
