What shutter speed does one need to get a clear shot of a spinning wedding ring?
I only have my iPhone (4s) now and that produces the shot below. I'm sure some of you creative types could do something fancy but I'd be interested to know what speed is req'd to get a perfectly clear shot.

Maybe this could grow into a separate thread tho it might clash with what Mav has done for the Photo of the day.

If the shutter speed is fast enough to freeze it, it won't look like it's spinning. So just balance the ring on its side and snap away.

Or cheat with small amounts of blue tack.

Flash guns were the old way of freezing very fast motion as the flash is very brief indeed, shorter than the fastest shutter speed, but modern phones use long flashes so this doesn't work.

As for how fast the shutter speed needs to be - it kinda depends on how fast the ring is spinning.

If you want to mostly freeze it with a bit of blur to show it's moving then I guess around 250-500th as it will be spinning pretty quickly

TBH, I don't really care about the photo so I'm not interested in glue, blu-tac etc
Part of my curiosity was to determine how fast it was spinning which I could estimate once I know a shutter speed.

I'd use a table spinner 1st as that you can always spin at a consistent speed & then you can get your eye in on the correct shutter speed.

Average linear velocity would be round about zero
