Default Which tyres? Pointy.

Hi

I'm about to stick some new tyres on my SV650 K3 (pointy). I commute every day, rain or shine and may do the odd trackday in the future. I want grip over mileage.

Any recommendations?

Rich

Michelin PR3's or PR4's i can vouch for the PR3's gripping like brown stuff to a blanket rain or shine and according to some the PR4's are even better.

Can vouch for the PR3's. Yesterday the lad in front of me touched the front brake on his ZZR600 and dropped it on a very wet hairpin bend with adverse camber, I hit the brakes praying not to slide on whatever he had, the ABS didn't kick in and I stopped before hitting him. After we had got him and bike to safety I checked the road surface and couldn't see or feel anything slippy. I just revel in the confidence they give in real road conditions.

I use contimotions, but then it was bound to be those, I can make a poo joke out of them!

Grip, longevity and price are all excellent and I simply cannot fault them. We have also just put a set on my other half's bike and even on that lumbering beast they work very well.

I've got BT023's on the SV and the Bandit and have total confidence in them. I'm out in all weathers as well and can honestly say I've never had so much as a twitch even giving it the beans on a damp trackday at Oulton.

I bought the bike with 2.5k miles on it and 021's, changed them at about 4k miles and I've just clocked 11k and there's still loads of life left in them, so longevity wise, they're brilliant.

My next hoops will be something a bit stickier tho, probably the T30's

Thanks for the advice. Sound like most modern tyres are good, certainly better than the old, hard Pirellis I currently have fitted. I was going for some Angels STs, which I had on my last bike (Triumph Speed 4) as they were really good, but I guess the Michelin PR4s are the way to go.

If you want grip over mileage I can highly recommend Michelin Pilot Power tyres, especially the 2CT. The softest compound of a PR3/PR4 (that is on the shoulders) is what this tyre runs in the centre of the rear tyre. I am on my 2nd set and simply cannot fault them, wet or dry they are phenomenal.

Dunlop roadsmarts II, lots of confident fun to be had. To be honest any of the more modern tyres which have dual compounds will be great!

As long as you go for sports touring of a named brand your pretty safe.
Angle ST, Metzler Z8 etc.
Look for a good deal
