Unless there's some other physical cause to that like a snagging cable or brake line then I agree it looks like a notched bearing.
If you're taking the forks off anyway then whip the yolks off at the same time and inspect the bearings and races. |

I am very surprised I haven't noticed it while driving around on the bike. I will check to make sure there are no cables, but I am 99% certain..
How do you normally discover a worn out bearing? |

If the bearing needs replaced it should be easy enough to spot.
Rust, flat spots on the balls or rollers, big grooves worn into the races. Any or all of the above will be pretty apparent with a visual inspection. |
