Default Tyre Warmers

Just got the SV ready for next Tuesday at Cadwell with new tyres, pads and discs fitted, I never use my tyre warmers, I tend to have a couple of steady laps and just build my pace up from there, would there be any benefit with new rubber on to putting them on first off?

I understand the whole heat cycle thing, its just last time we were at Cadwell we were pulled into the holding area that many times with red flags it just doesnt seem worth the agro taking the genny, putting the warmers on, then off if your then going to sit about waiting.

Would it aid the new rubber, be safer, to use them first thing while I get everything bedded in?

Provided you get the warmers on early enough their real value is that they heat the tyre all the way through and the rims absorb a fair bit as well. Sure, the outer surface of the tyre will cool a bit when you sit around in the collecting area but a significant amount of the heat will remain in the structure and this is heat you don't have to put back in during the first few laps. Depending on the tyres you are using (some are more prone than others) it also helps to avoid any chance of cold tear, which is where you ride to hard on a cold tyre and the surface rips up.

A warm up lap or two gets you and your brain warm, as well as the tires. Sometimes I need more than two if I'm not racing, which I'm not, because I'm old enough to be getting a bit fragile.
If you just want to learn how to crash, which is a useful skill if you plan to ride right on the edge all the time, the first lap is one of the easiest places to do it.

I always use my warmers:-
1, They give me confidence heading out, I have seen many bin it on cold tyres.
2, The tyres last longer due to less heat cycles which saves money.
3, Easier to set hot pressures.
4, You only get 20 minutes on track so why waste a quarter of your track time warming them up.

I am a big fan of tyre warmers there is not really a down side to using them that I can see!.

If you are using road tyres then I doubt it makes much difference and going steady for a couple of laps is probably more beneficial. Complete opposite if you are running track tyres
