Default USB

Soo I've bought a USB socket that runs from the battery on my sv, now what I want to know is can I put a inline switch on the cable as otherwise the socket has power going to it all the time.

Yes. You could also wire it into a switched live feed so it's only getting power when the ignition is on.

Sorry for the stupid question but I could just buy a simple switch and add inline? which wire is best to add it to? Red or black?

I used a four pin relay to a switched live. Its easy enough to do and there are loads of wiring diagrams on the internet. Make sure you have only 5 volts going to the usb if you're using it for phone charging!

I'll second this advice. The gizmo will give you three different outputs that only come on when the bike is live. Atm I have my heated grips and phone charger through it. which gives me one output free if I was ever in need of it for a GPS!

I forgot to add, its very neat & simple to install, even an electrical numpty like me managed to fit it. So's wiring in your device

Having three connection points, lets you add extra items, like careless has done, without any hassle.

And another bonus is every time someone buys one the forums gets a bit of cash to keep it afloat.

Just my two-penneth. I would use relay/gizmo on a direct feed from the battery with a switch. I have one on my Triumph and it's switched so I can use it when ignition is off.

Means I can charge my Sena Bluetooth Headset overnight when I am on long runs/campsites

Recent trip to JOG and back would have been a nightmare without it.
