That is an audio file that I grabbed on my phone just so you know what kind of racket I'm on about. Started earlier today, pretty much as I was pulling out of the garage, and so obviously the bike went straight back in because that isn't the kind of noise I want to be hearing from it! As far as I could tell there was nothing that I did to set it off, I started the bike up and left it to idle for a few minutes to warm up and after about 90 seconds of idling it started making that noise. As for where the noise is coming from, I can't tell exactly but it sounds to me like the front of the engine, towards the right hand side, but I didn't want to have the bike running for any length of time so I didn't have a chance to have a proper listen. Anybody have any idea what I should be checking? I was going to try and get the from cam chain tensioner out tomorrow to check it, and I was also considering taking the clutch apart and making sure nothing had come loose as I had it apart a little while ago and there is always the possiblity that I failed to do something up fully and it has worked loose, but after those two things I'm completely out of ideas. So, please help! Thanks. |

do you get the same noise if you keep the clutch lever fully in?

Ok, tiny bit more information. I just rode the bike along to a mates garage where I can park it up and work on it, only a few hundred yards but it seemed to be riding fine except for the noise, and surely if it was the crank that had gone it wouldn't run at all, or if it did then it would be running like crap!
Also, the cam chain tensioners have been clicking for a few weeks now, which I believe is a sign on the old SVs that they are on their way out. Is it possible that the front CCT has failed? |

With duff crank it can run fine but noisey and the conrod/ shell moves against the crank untill the shell fails and the conrod grinds against the crank.
Maybe the recording but it seems very loud for a CCT fail |

I did move the phone much closer to the casing just as the bike was starting so it sounds louder on the video that it does in reality.
