Default Which SV to choose!, k2 vs k4

sv650s k22002 or sv 650 2004 k4

Found two nearish me the 2002 model only having 7k miles and being slightly cheaper and the 2004 over 30k with costing more, pros and cons of buying each/which one will probably be better?

Easy curvy beautiful

Pointy ugly

Can't think of any major plus points between each of those 2, similar brakes, handling, engine.

You won't be disappointed with either, so long as the k4 has been well maintained, the engine will go on for high mileages.

Depends which one you prefer the look of and what fits your budget.

Swings & roundabouts really, depends which one you prefer the looks of. I like pointies, I realise this puts me in the minority

The K2 is carbed so arguably a few less things to go wrong. The injected bikes have a bit more power and midrange on the dyno (about 3 - 4bhp and a couple of ft-lb of torque) but I doubt you'd notice on the road.

I would check the servicing of each carefully and go with the one which has been looked after better. Both of them will have needed at least a valve clearance check, so ask for evidence of this. Check the MOTs for mileages done. If the low mileage K2 has been serviced regularly despite the low miles, it could be a great bet. However, if it's only had an oil change every 3 years or so and done 1,500 miles between changes, that's a recipe for internal condensation and corrosion in the motor.

If they are private sales, the state of the owner will tell you a lot ... the good thing is that SVs don't have a brilliant finish to start with, so if they are neglected, it shows. So go on condition. Also, don't be gutted if neither works out, there's always loads for sale, they come up often.

Good luck and keep us posted.

The k2 is 1200 and k4 1400, just want one in a reasonable condition that I can restrict and use for my a2, anything in particular I should ask when I go to see them/ look for off to see the k2 on Sunday

I'd go k2 as simpler technology less to go wrong

But it all depends on condition of bike

Think about this too: If you are using it in the winter, a fuel injected bike is easier to start in the morning.

That one of things I would consider anyway.

k2 might devalue less, so if it's a short term investment, perhaps this would be the one to go for.
