I learned that my Tamron 70-300 sucks at panning. Autofocus isn't fast enough. But yes, I picked up loads of tips. The cats were shot through glass and the third bird down was through wire mesh.

I forget what body you're using, Nikon or Canon?
I have a Sigma 150-500 AF zoom here (this one I think) that I don't use enough....it fits Canon....chances are the AF would be too slow with this too though...
