Default Should i say something?

Should I go and knock on some kids door and tell him that the back light on his bike has failed. I happened to spot the bike in a driveway when I was out on the pushbike.

He's ridden past me twice this week and I've noticed that the lights not working even when he's breaking.

Sure why not,

Either that, or catch him next time you see him, before he goes into the house.

Or another way is post a swift friendly note through the door.

I often tell drivers if their brake lights or running lights are out

Yes I would. Hopefully he will be grateful and get it sorted. I know how you feel though to be apprehensive. You don't want to be thought of as a busy body. I just think it is worth that risk, he could get injured or worse without a light and it is something you could prevent by flagging it up. It will help the situation if he knows you ride a bike and understand the dangers.

It's an easy thing to miss.

I remember driving my old mini along some country lanes and the dashboard lights went out. I thought to myself, if I was designing a car, I'd put the dashboard lights on the same fuse as the tail lights, so you'd know if they weren't working.

Sure enough, they were out as well. And it was the fuse.

Definitely tell him. I was due for an MOT and my mechanic friend pointed out that the number plate light wasn't working. If he hadn't spotted it, it would have been a MOT failure. I have no idea how long it hadn't been working.

Yes. I'm sure he'll be grateful. If he is not sufficiently grateful or in anyway abusive then let the police know there is an unlit motorcycle that is a road hazard and hope he'll learn a bit more gratitude next time. I've often knocked on doors to tell people they have left interior lights on or a parking light or something that'll give them a flat battery in the morning. Usually concerned at a stranger knocking on the door but always grateful.

...or just do what the yoofs would probably do and film him on your phone, then post it on YouTube or somewhere....

No? Thought not.
