Default Bike Seat Heights:

I have a "big" birthday on the horizon. My wife said she would buy me a bike. Went off to Shipley to look at bikes, fancied a Honda CRF250SM. Sat on a L version and my feet are miles off the floor When I was a lad trail bikes had a reasonably low seat height. The Honda MSX maybe a possibility but just like 70's bikes you have to fit a decent set of tyres. (What happened to progress?)

If you ask me (but no ones does) all that progress has done is make bikes in different genre's more and more specific. Off road bikes are all generally taller and narrower than the old days. Sports bikes are more compact and less practical.

This is exactly the same with mountain bikes, I quickly lost interest after most conversations started to be along the lines of, I wish I had X bike for this 200 yards of trail, every 200 yards.

MSX's are great fun; my partner has one to learn on but I have ridden it more than she has. Very light and easy to ride. Because it is so light, it really goes too. I have done over 60 on it and I weigh more than 15 stone in my gear.
